My software developer intern quit his job, after 3 working days
Recently my company hired 2 university students as interns, their major is software engineering so they are future developers; they were supposed to work for 6 weeks, but one of them, Brian, quit his job after working for 3 days only.
As their mentor, I was shocked that morning when I saw the title of his resignation email. I honestly thought I was a good mentor: I’m friendly, I’m not harsh and I’m always willing to help. But was I not good enough? Did I do anything wrong?
How was it going
Let’s go back to 3 days before, that’s the morning of their first visit to our office. After they finished the document stuff with the human resource manager, I briefly explained to them the architecture of our application, then I gave them a few hours to install the software needed and set up the environment for development.
At that time our development team has a lot more to cover on the front end than the back end, so I would like the interns to pick up flutter and hopefully reduce my workload a little bit. I gave them the official flutter documentation and the Flutter Widget of the Week playlist, and asked them to implement one of the following two games in Flutter as a warm-up task: Tic-Tac-Toe and Guessing Numbers.
